Winter 2018 News Update

We have had a really busy few months here at SCOTS !

To ensure we keep abreast of the latest research we are always on the look out for Professional development opportunities.  Recently several of our team were able to attend presentations by,  Jonathon Green,  developer of the PACT Program in the UK. which were organised by the Telethon Kids Institute in Perth.  Our Developmental , and Relationship based approach shares the same key philosophical principles of the PACT program and  it was great to know that the core philosophy we follow at Sensory Connections being so validated by a leader in the field of autism early intervention.

We continue to provide training and mentoring opportunities  to other professionals outside of our Sensory Connections team. Kathy returned last month from her training trip to Ireland where she worked with Mari Caulfield, Speech Therapist  colleague running The Action Is In The Interaction Training’s both in Dublin and Galway to a varied group of allied health and medical professionals. This was Kathy’s 10th work visit to Ireland over the past decade!

Little Steps Kindy ( LSK ) –  After a fantastic term 1 and term 2, we are having a mid year break at the moment over the winter holidays.   Kathy OT  and Laura SLP are working together to facilitate this small group program and are thoroughly enjoying being witness to all of the gains being made as we support the children towards their readiness for school.   Our team is planning ahead to expand this program new year to respond to offer more morning programs.

July School Holiday Groups – Our combined OT and  Speech therapy  Floortime group programs are in progress now during these winter holidays ! .  We individually design the groups around the needs of the children who are on our caseloads, and it is fantastic to have the opportunity to work more intensely with the children with each other during this time. Having both OT and Speech therapy input in our groups is a real benefit as we work together  to support the children’s development.  If you would like to know more about the ways we work to build social emotional and other developmental capacities stay tuned as we are in process of developing information sheets about our floortime groups to put on this website.

The  Supporting Early Learning for Families ( SELF program)  is running again starting in early August.    Kathy OT and Laura SLP will be running the group and are really delighted to be able to have this intensive time of learning and development  with parents and children over a 7 week period.   Although this current group is full we are already planning for another group to be run in term 1, 2018. There will be space for 5 families.  Please also be aware of the very important fund raising work that goes into supporting us to run SELF through the Kai Botsis Charitable Foundation. Don’t miss the Golf Day Fundraiser running in September.

Additions to Our Dream Team –   We are looking forward to welcoming Kate Saraga, OT who will join our team in August 2018 bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience.  Stay tuned here for more information about Kate who will be working with us on Monday and Fridays.

Last of all – we have a part time work opportunity for an admin assistant / receptionist.

That is our news for now!  We hope that families and colleagues are all doing well during this winter period and keeping warm!

From the SCOTS team.
