Therapeutic Listening® and The Listening Program®

Jean Ayres’ groundbreaking work in the field of sensory integration brought to light the critical importance of integration information from our senses for the organization of movement, learning, and behaviour.

A primary focus is to enhance sensory processing through the vestibular, proprioceptive, and tactile senses to facilitate self-generated, goal-directed activity. Recent clinical practice has demonstrated the benefits of incorporating sound into sensory treatment strategies. In fact many experts agree that the auditory system is a critical link.

Therapeutic Listening®

Therapeutic Listening® was developed by an Occupational Therapist called Sheila Frick, and is an innovative program for providing high quality auditory input within the context of a sensory based treatment program. We use Therapeutic listening at times with our clients and families as part of a comprehensive intervention approach particularly when there is significant sensory processing and modulation issues.

For more details about the theory behind this tool, please read Sheila Frick’s company website at www.vitallinks.net

The Listening Program®

The Listening Program is another music based auditory stimulation method that trains the brain to improve the auditory skills needed to effectively listen, learn and communicate.

For some of our children and families this is a more appropriate program to use, particularly for those whom we are not able to monitor on a regular basis as this is more of a structured program. See www.advancedbraintechnologies.com and www.links2learning.com.au
