Balametrics Learning Breakthrough Program
This balance and vestibular stimulation program was initially developed in the 1960's, by Dr F. Belgau, who was a researcher at the University of Houston where he directed the Perceptual Motor and Visual Perception Laboratory. He worked alongside staff at N.A.S.A. who supported and funded some of the basic scientific research that has attempted to understand how the sense of balance, or vestibular system, operates, and how balance effects brain processing and sensory processing.
Research has shown that activities that involve balance can have a significant effect on visual processing, reading, and learning efficiency and academic performance.
overview
The Balametrics program is a specific set of exercises using specifically designed equipment tools, such as a Belgau balance board and perceptual motor equipment. It is designed to include follow through with a daily home program of 15 – 30 minutes of individualised exercises.
It has been used to address brain processing problems at the source by engaging in sensory motor activities that cause the neural networks in the brain to grow and become more efficient. Our staffs uses the Balametrics activities when designing individualised home programs which may also include other therapy tools such as Interactive Metronome rhythmic activities, brain gym activities, reflex integration and listening tasks to improve this underlying processing efficiency.
We are able to individualise a program for school aged children and this program is appropriate for children with a range of challenges including those with challenges associated with ADD/ ADHD, CAPD, Sensory Processing Dysfunction, and Learning Disabilities. See: www.balametrics.com
