About Sensory Connections

We are a private paediatric and school age Allied Health therapy practice, founded in 2003 and located at 104 Keightley Road West, Shenton Park 6008, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. We are based in a comfortable home like environment with a range of spaces including a large gym and smaller therapy rooms.

Our team of transdiciplinary therapists are committed to supporting children to reach their potential and to empower parents with the knowledge and skills that they need to support their children's development.

We work with children with autistic spectrum disorders, developmental delays, regulatory and sensory processing disorders, motor based disorders including dyspraxia, attentional and learning disorders as well as a range of other neurodevelopmental challenges. The age group we currently work with, ranges from infancy through to school age / adolescence.

Our practice provides a range of multidisciplinary paediatric occupational therapy and Speech and Language Pathology services for participants requesting, Early Chilhood Intervention (ECI 0-6yrs) and School Age Intervention (SAI 7-18yrs) with a broad range of needs including those wanting to improve:

  • Childhood Apraxia of speech,
  • Speech sound disorders,
  • Symbolic Play development,
  • Preparation for transition to school,
  • Phonological awareness challenges and literacy difficulties (reading, reading comprehension and spelling).

Our intervention services include both individual, peer and social group based services. We run an intensive multidisciplinary early intervention group program, "Little Steps Kindy"(Little Steps Kindy) and other term based group programs. We also host parent trainings and Floortime parent support group programs.

In addition to our direct services to children and families Kathy Walmsley, our clinical director, provides specialist tutoring and mentoring services to other agencies and professionals both nationally and internationally. Please see information about Kathy's background here.

Health Scheme Rebates Available

Our therapists are all registered as Medicare Allied Health providers, and with all the Private Health Insurance Funds. For delivery of individual allied health services under the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC), also called Chronic Disease Management (CDM) and Helping Children with Autism (HCA) initiatives. Our senior Occupational therapists are also accredited by OT Australia as providers under the Initiative in Mental Health Scheme (MHCP). Please enquire at reception or with your therapists if you wish to use one of the GP Managed Medicare rebate schemes.

Department of Social Services Programs

Sensory Connections Occupational Therapy Services is an authorised lead agency on the Early Intervention Service Provider Panel under Dept. of Social Services (DSS) Helping Children with Autism Package (HCWA) and Better Start Initiative (BSI) program. Families who have a child who meets the eligibility criteria can use this funding support to access Sensory Connections Occupational Therapy Services.


National Disability Insurance Scheme and WA NDIS

Sensory Connections Occupational Therapy Services is a registered Disability Services Organisation (DSO) with both NDIS and WA NDIS programs. Families who have a person with disabaility that meets the eligibility criteria for either of these schemes can use their individual or self managed plan funding to access Sensory Connections Occupational Therapy Services, for supports and Therapy.
